Local school boards may develop an Extended Learning Opportunity policy allowing students to earn elective course credit for out-of-classroom learning offered by eligible entities. Learning opportunities include pre-apprenticeships, apprenticeships, internships, or other experiences approved by the Office of Career and Technical Education.
Which students are eligible?
Students in grade 9 through grade 12.
Who can be a program provider?
Entities that may submit proposals is broadly defined and includes nonprofits, businesses with established locations in the state, trade associations, parents, teachers, and school personnel.
Who approves provider applications?
There is a two-part approval process. If approved by local school board, the school board must submit the application to the Office of Career and Technical Education for review prior to implementation.
