Texas

Currently, Learn Everywhere legislation has not been introduced in Texas. However, this page provides students and families with information about available options for earning credit for out-of-classroom learning. While Learn Everywhere allows for program providers to be approved to offer credit-bearing learning opportunities, for the programs listed below, it is the student’s responsibility to submit an application and complete the program requirements.

Academic Credit for Out-of-Classroom Learning

Alternative Academic Arrangements

A school district, with the approval of the commissioner, may allow a student to satisfy the fine arts credit required for graduation by participating in a community-based fine arts program not provided by the school district. The fine arts program must provide instruction in the essential knowledge and skills identified for fine arts by the State Board of Education.

A school district, with the approval of the commissioner, may allow a student to comply with the curriculum requirements for the physical education credit required for graduation by participating in a private or commercially sponsored physical activity program provided on or off a school campus and outside the regular school day.

Academic Credit for Community Service

Students may earn .5 to 1 credit for the Family and Community Services course, a laboratory-based course designed to involve students in realistic and meaningful community-based activities through direct service or service-learning experiences. Students are provided opportunities to interact with and provide services to individuals, families, and the community through community or volunteer services.
