Idaho closes extended application period for Parental Choice Tax Credit weeks early as demand exceeds remaining funds

Idaho has closed the second application window for the Parental Choice Tax Credit weeks ahead of its scheduled August 15 deadline, after families claimed the roughly $7 million left over from the program’s first application window.

What it means:
The Tax Commission reopened applications on May 21 to distribute leftover funds after the program’s first window closed in March. Families moved quickly to claim the remaining awards, and the state has now closed the window early, on a first-come, first-served basis, once available funds were fully committed.

What we’re saying:
“Each of these applications is a parent who decided their child needed something different, and didn’t want to wait to make that happen,” said Heidie Nesset, vice president of implementation at yes. every kid. foundation. “Every Idaho child deserves individualized options that best suit their needs. Watching families claim this program’s remaining funds ahead of schedule tells us exactly how ready families are for this kind of support, and we’re excited to see it continue growing in the years ahead.”

What families should know:

  • Families who submitted applications before the window closed will be notified of their status per the Tax Commission’s timeline
  • Families who did not apply in time should watch for guidance on future funding cycles
  • Program details remain available at myschoolchoice.idaho.gov
