Americans remain steadfast in their support of education freedom and giving families more choices, authority, and flexibility.
New national polling conducted by YouGov on behalf of yes. every kid. foundation. demonstrates Americans remain firm in their support of expanding education freedom and providing families more opportunities to customize an education to meet the needs of each kid. While special interests continue to try and discredit education freedom in favor of the stagnant status quo, Americans recognize that education decisions should be made by those closest to students, not lawmakers and Washington, DC. Americans also recognize that education freedom policies strengthen education throughout the country.
“Americans across the country are united behind education freedom. They want to give families more authority, more flexibility, and more options than the current system offers, and the data shows they are far ahead of the political debate,” said Matt Frendewey, vice president of strategy, yes. every kid. foundation.
Family-First Policies are Popular
Driven by a fundamental belief that families should be able to customize a K-12 education to meet the unique needs of each child (72% say a great deal/some), strong majorities of Americans across the country and in every demographic subgroup support these family-first policies:
- 64% support empowering every kid to access any public school in their state, regardless of their family’s address.
- 63% support giving families access to education savings accounts (ESAs), with 70% of supporters believing in universal eligibility.
- 58% support funding families directly via education tax credits.

Education That is Truly Accountable
In too many states, a child’s education is dictated by unaccountable bureaucrats, requiring families to adapt to a rigid, one-size-fits-all system that ignores the unique needs of each child. Families often have little route to hold anyone accountable to improve the system.
Americans know there is a better way—one that not only empowers families to make the best decisions for themselves but equips them with the necessary resources to make these decisions.
- 76% believe K-12 schools need to be more accountable to parents.
- 61% believe that schools will be more accountable to families when a child can leave a school and take their designated education funding with them. A majority of every demographic subgroup agrees.
This is true accountability, one that respects families and affects real change.

“For the third year in a row, our survey demonstrates that Americans are demanding a new direction in education, one that respects the needs of every child, shifts accountability to families, and expands opportunities to empower all children to succeed.” – Matt Frendewey, vice president of strategy, yes. every kid. foundation.
The poll was conducted by YouGov America, Inc. from November 19-24, 2025. YouGov interviewed 1,351 nationally representative respondents who were then matched down to a sample of 1,000 to produce the final dataset. The margin of error is +/- 3.6%.
