Wyoming’s Steamboat Legacy Scholarship is back—and families are ready

Wyoming’s Supreme Court unanimously lifted an injunction blocking the Steamboat Legacy Scholarship, clearing the way for Wyoming families to once again access a program that empowers them to direct education funding toward the learning environment that works best for their child.

Why it matters:
The scholarship is reopening ahead of the 2026–27 school year, giving Wyoming families the opportunity to choose an educational path that fits their child’s unique needs.

The big picture:
Wyoming families have had to wait on the sidelines because the Wyoming teachers’ union sued to block students from accessing the program. Now, with the scholarship back on track, students can access educational options designed with them in mind, one that puts the decision-making power where it belongs: with parents.

What we’re saying:
“Wyoming families have been waiting for this moment, and we are thrilled the Steamboat Legacy Scholarship is back. Parents know what their children need, and this program gives them the freedom to pursue it. We can’t wait to see Wyoming kids get into the classrooms and learning environments where they thrive.”
—Heidie Nesset, Vice President of Implementation, yes. every kid. foundation.

What’s next:

  • Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder has announced plans to immediately reopen the program.
  • Families interested in the Steamboat Legacy Scholarship can expect a call for applications or renewals ahead of the 2026–27 school year.
  • The underlying legal challenge continues in district court, but families can benefit from the program in the meantime.
