Program will provide microgrants to eligible families for education-related expenses

BOISE, Idaho – Today, Gov. Brad Little announced the launch of Idaho’s Empowering Parents Grants Program, which will provide up to $50 million in microgrants to eligible Idaho families for education-related expenses. Executive Director Andrew Clark issued the following statement on behalf of yes. every kid. foundation. (Yes Foundation), celebrating the program’s launch:

“After more than 80,000 Idaho students expressed interest in the Strong Families, Strong Students program in 2020, it is clear Idaho families value being empowered to customize their children’s education. Every Idaho family deserves the opportunity to provide their children with an individualized education that fits their specific learning needs.

“We are grateful for Rep. Wendy Horman and Sen. Lori Den Hartog’s work on passing this program, and we are excited to support Gov. Little and the State Board of Education as they implement this program and allow families to supplement their child’s education with educational opportunities and materials that best fit their child’s unique learning style.”

The Empowering Parents Grants Program has broad bipartisan support and was signed into law by Gov. Little in May 2022 following a near-unanimous vote by both chambers of the Idaho Legislature. The program, inspired by the popularity and success of the Strong Families, Strong Students program, will provide grants of up to $1,000 per student or $3,000 per family for education-related expenses, including additional courses, tutoring, learning material, books, and other related supplies and materials.

Families with an adjusted gross income of under $60,000 will be eligible for the program in the first wave. Families making under $75,000 will be eligible for the program in the second wave, and if funds are still available, funds will then be awarded to all other eligible families regardless of income.

Families can apply for the program beginning today at EmpoweringParents.Idaho.gov.
